[ In truth, Luisa hadn't even really known what day it was. She remembered it was Agustín's birthday of course, which made her miss her father all the more, but she hadn't actually known that it was also Father's Day until after she'd gotten the small gift for Bruno.

But it seemed as good a time to give it to him anyway, and so at some point he'd find a little wrapped present at his door, and inside the box is a paperweight - really, a rock painted to look like a rat - and a note. ]

I found this and thought you might like it. Maybe it'll help with your work at the restaurant? I know Mamá said no rats there, but she'd probably make an exception for this one.

[Oh wow, this is hecking adorable. He's going to cherish this forever and she better BET he's going to use this to get around her mother's no rats in the restaurant rule. It's the perfect bending of the law, honestly. He'll send her a message back. ]

Mi carzon, that little rat is perfect! I know your mamá is gonna roll her eyes about it, but I think laying it on thick that it's a gift from my LOVELY niece will get me a solid pass for it. Gracias, I love it!

That's true! It's a great loophole and probably better than trying to stealthily sneak the rats in anyway.
